About AgentFi

The Mission

AgentFi brings together 40-100 university innovators to build autonomous AI payment agents using Interledger Protocol. We solve financial inclusion in Uganda's 7+ million informal workers who operate entirely outside formal banking infrastructure.

The Problem

Uganda's informal economy is the lifeline for millions. Yet a boda rider earning 50,000 UGX per day cannot send money home reliably. A market trader with 20 years of history cannot prove income to a bank. These workers are deliberately excluded by systems that require collateral and formal IDs.

The Solution

AI autonomous agents operating as peer-to-peer payment nodes using Interledger Protocol. No gatekeepers. No intermediaries taking cuts. Students will build agents that enable voice-activated payments, real-time settlement between workers, and seamless cross-border money transfer for migrant workers.

Pre-Event Phase

Nov 1-16, 2026

Planning & Recruitment

Finalize speakers, judges, and venue. Launch marketing campaign. Coordinate with partners (Interledger Foundation, MIICHub, Sunbird AI). Recruit 40-100 students across 20+ universities.

Workshop Phase

Nov 17, 2026 (Tuesday) - Virtual

Workshop 1: Interledger Protocol & Open Payments

Duration: 2-3 hours | Topics: ILP fundamentals, payment flows, open standards | Format: Live presentation + Q&A on Google Meet

Nov 18, 2026 (Wednesday) - Virtual

Workshop 2: Building AI Agents for Finance

Duration: 2-3 hours | Topics: Agent architecture, decision trees, LLM integration | Format: Technical walkthrough + code demo

Nov 19, 2026 (Thursday) - In-Person

Workshop 3: Design Sprint & Team Formation

Duration: 4-5 hours | Activities: Problem exploration, team formation (10-15 teams), architecture design | Location: Makerere COCIS

Hackathon Sprint

Nov 20-21, 2026 (Thursday-Friday)

36-Hour Hackathon Sprint

Day 1 (Nov 20): Team setup, architecture review, development begins
Day 2 (Nov 21): Final development push, demos, pitching, judging, awards ceremony

Final Report & Sustainability Planning

Submit final report to Interledger Foundation. Plan AgentFi 2027 edition. Analyze impact metrics. Identify scaling opportunities.
